Michael Owen Thomas — Artist
About the Artist
Michael Owen Thomas
At a very early age, it was apparent that Mike had a special artistic ability. When he wasn't exploring the outside world, he would spend many hours drawing. That time spent drawing was always enjoyable and still is today.

Mike paints and draws mainly realistic, figurative work. He does portraits in oils, pencil and colored pencil. He also enjoys telling stories or conveying messages through his art.

At the beginning of 2009 he began a blog about issues related to creativity and art. Visit The Creative Habit to start a conversation.

Artist Statement
I have always enjoyed drawing and painting people. Whether I am working specifically on a portrait, trying to convey a message or telling a story, people are the main focus of my image making. I also like to look at things in an idealistic way. To celebrate the beauty of creation and the human form. I know we live in an imperfect, fallen world, but I choose to dwell on what is good and right and noble. Sometimes even I vary from my own statement as seen in the painting Hustle and Flow and even Got Oil? (both shown below), but hopefully these are kinder, gentler portrayals of some serious issues.
